Elmer Lee Thom, 80, of Poplar Bluff died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Thom was born June 26, 1931 in Lafayette, La. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, and had owned and operated a small engine repair shop since 1970. Mr. Thom was also a veteran of the United States Army. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, crossword puzzles and working.

On Oct. 4, 1952, he married Bonnie Hawkins in Piggott, Ark. She survives.

In addition to his wife of 59 years survivors include brother-in-law, Jerry Gorman of Alma, Ark; brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy and JoAnn McGowen and Raymond and Jean Hawkins all of Poplar Bluff; sister-in-law, Pauline Ryan of West Covina, Calif.; and 11 nieces and nephews.

His parents, Fred and Lila Gilligan Thom and sister, Marjorie Gorman preceded Mr. Thom in death.

Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel with Rev. Steve Patterson officiating and Rev. Don Mayo assisting. Burial with full military honors will follow at the City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
