Eloise Mardell Anthony, 75, of Poplar Bluff died Friday, March 6, 2009 at her residence.

Mrs. Anthony was born Feb. 8, 1934, in Chebanse, Ill. She attended St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Poplar Bluff, and was a homemaker. While residing in Illinois she worked as secretary for the Illinois governor. After moving to Missouri she along with her husband operated a restaurant and tavern. Mrs. Anthony later worked with the school lunch program at Lake Road School. She was an avid seamstress and enjoyed making quilts and crafts. Mrs. Anthony also enjoyed cooking, especially candies and cookies.

On Nov. 29, 1988 she married Walter Wade Anthony in Corning, Ark. He preceded her in death on April 25, 1996.

Survivors include four step-children: Jack Anthony and William Anthony, both of Hinsdale, Ill., Robert Anthony of Wellesley, Mass. and Francine Ciestek of Palatine, Ill.; a sister, Dora Trah, of Kankakee, Ill.; and two special nieces, Peggy Lou Wilking and Mary Jane Wilking.

Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Saturday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jim Schremp officiating. Burial will be at Sparkman Cemetery in Butler County.
