Esther G. Mahon

Esther G. (Portenberry) Mahon, 77 of Poplar Bluff died Monday, Jan 25, 2010 at Mark Twain Caring Center in Poplar Bluff.

Mrs. Mahon was born May 13, 1932 in Peach Orchard, Ark. She was of the Pentecostal faith, and was a homemaker. During her earlier years she worked in a clothing factory. Mrs. Mahon enjoyed canning, making jelly, fishing and creating ceramics.

On Nov. 5, 1949 she married Nathan Portenberry. He preceded her in death on July 31, 1970. On June 27, 1986 she married Edward F. Mahon. He preceded her in death on Feb. 18, 1991.

Survivors include three daughters, Emmie Kloss of Bella Vista, Ark., Irene M. Young of Joplin and Rosie Gunter of Mt. View; 10 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Pearl Pulliam of Poplar Bluff and Edna M. Shearon of Patterson.

Visitation will begin at 12 noon today at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. A graveside service and burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. today at Memorial Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Ernie Rogers officiating.
