Faye E. Suttner, 89, of Poplar Bluff died Sunday, March 8, 2009 at Cedargate Care Center in Poplar Bluff.
Mrs. Suttner was born Sept. 5, 1919 in Cleveland, Ark. She retired from Roth's Department Store in 1984 where she had been employed for 30 years; and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church since 1940. When her children were students at Sacred Heart School Mrs. Suttner was a room mother and active in the PTA where she served as president. She served three years as vice-president and four years as president of St. Ann Alter Society, and two terms as president and treasurer of the women's auxiliary to the Knights of Columbus. In 1964 Mrs. Suttner completed a 60 hour course in Confraternity of Christian Doctrine and taught religion to Catholic High School students for two years. She has done volunteer visitation work for the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center as a representative of the National Catholic Community Service; and had volunteered at Cedargate Care Center. In 1970 Mrs. Suttner was Diocesan Chairman of the Family Life Committee of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women; and she completed over two years of service on the Sacred Heart Parish Council. She was also past chairman of the Sacred Heart sewing room where she had quilted many quilts for the church bazaar. Mrs. Suttner was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Assoc. for over 20 years having served as President; and in 1978 was named B&PW Woman of the Year. She enjoyed traveling, visiting with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sewing, quilting, embroidering and ceramics.
On June 24, 1939 she married Joseph B. Suttner in Caruthersville. He preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 1969. In 1979 she married Hubert Wilson. He preceded her in death in 1989.
Survivors include four children: JoAnn Fisher of Albuquerque, NM; Barbara Collins of Poplar Bluff; Dr. David B. Suttner of Detroit, Mich.; and Daniel M. Suttner of Spokane, Wa.; six grandchildren: Diana, Danny Joe, Bobby, Ellen, Mikey and Joseph; five great-grandchildren: Anthony, Heather, Kim, Andrea and Jacqueline; a great-great-grandson, Max Anthony; sisters, Glenda Cline of Energy, Ill. and Billie Leonard of LaPort, Ind.; and a brother, Don McKuin of Poplar Bluff.
Her parents, Joe and Myrtle (Brents) McKuin; granddaughter, Donna Collins, sister, Jewel Hatchett and brothers, Harold McKuin, Clint McKuin and Leo McKuin preceded her in death.
A Prayer Service will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at Cotrell Funeral Service with visitation following until 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Michael McDevitt and Father David Coon officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
