Floye Aileen Black

Floye Aileen Black, 88, of Poplar Bluff passed away peacefully in the presence of her family Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011 at the Ozark Baptist Home in Ozark, Mo. after a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Mrs. Black, the second of five children, was born Nov. 13, 1922 in Harrisburg, Ark. A devout Christian she was an active member of First Baptist Church of Poplar Bluff and for many years taught Sunday School to the youth as well as adults. She moved to Ozark, Mo. four years ago to be near her family. Mrs. Black spend many years employed by Florsheim Shoes at their Poplar Bluff factory. Her love of Jesus, the Bible and her five great-grandkids will be her lasting legacy. Those who were fortunate enough to have enjoyed her homemade donuts, fried apple pies or peanut brittle will forever be grateful.

On Dec. 14, 1941, she was united in marriage with Clarence Elbert Black. He preceded her in death on April 1, 1989.

Mrs. Black is survived by her son, Gary Black and wife, Jane of Springfield, MO.; grandsons, Gary Black Jr., wife Susie and their children Taylor and Jacy of Springfield, Mo. and Patrick Black, wife Donna and children Peyton, Jackson and Asher Jett of Redding, Calif.; sister, Ines Black and husband, Delbert of Poplar Bluff; brother, Harold Alexander and wife, Wanda of Mojave, Calif.; plus numerous nieces and nephews.

Her parents, Roy and Grace Alexander and sisters, Mildred Wilson of Independence, Mo. and Wilma Waggoner of Poplar Bluff also preceded her in death.

The family will receive and visit with friends and other family members from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church on W highway in Butler County with Dr. Mike Shy officiating. Burial will in the Mt. Zion Cemetery adjacent to the church. Following burial lunch will be served at the church.
