Frances A. Smith

Frances A. Smith, 86, of Poplar Bluff, formerly of the Lone Hill area, died Friday, October 23, 2009 at the Mark Twain Caring Center. Mrs. Smith was born March 21, 1923 at Potosi and was a homemaker. She was a long time member of the Morgan Corner Pentecostal Church and enjoyed reading her Bible. Her hobbies included playing dominoes, quilting, crocheting, feeding and watching the wild birds. She especially enjoyed cooking for her family and friends.

On June 7, 1944 she married Robert Smith in Taylorville, Ill. He preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 1981.

Surviving are nine children, Virgie Newsom and husband Rufus of Paxton, Ill.; Beverly Pitzen and husband John of Stoneville, N.C.; Robert Smith, Jr. and wife Edna of Brookville, Ohio; Sharon Willcut and husband Eldon of Poplar Bluff; Patricia Sheppard of Poplar Bluff; Richard Smith of Neelyville; Yvonne Wagner and husband John of Naylor; Brenda McWilliams of Harviell; Jim Smith and wife Jeannie of Poplar Bluff; 19 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter; one sister, Priscilla Stout of Poplar Bluff; and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

Preceding Mrs. Smith in death were her parents, Robert and Clara (Disney) Howard; an infant daughter, Sandra Smith; an infant grandson, Bobby Willcut and two infant great grandsons, Samuel Sheppard and Harold Wagner; a sister Samantha Stout; and a son-in-law, James Sheppard.

Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 25, 2009 at Cotrell Funeral Chapel. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home chapel with Brother Daniel Sisco officiating. Burial will be at Cochran Cemetery in Butler County.
