Frank Hutchinson, 89, of Poplar Bluff died Monday, Aug. 10, 2009 at Westwood Hills Healthcare Center, in Poplar Bluff.
Mr. Hutchinson was born Oct. 18, 1919 in Claude Spur (Morehouse), Mo. He was of the Baptist faith, and had retired as a locomotive engineer for Southern Pacific Railroad in Los Angeles, Calif. Mr. Hutchinson was a veteran of the U.S. Marines during WWII and participated in action on Tarawa, Gilbert Islands and Tinian, M.I. serving as frontline platoon sergeant. For his service he was awarded a Good Conduct Medal and an Honorable Service Lapel Button. Mr. Hutchinson enjoyed reading, particularly history books and literature concerning religion.
On July 8, 1974 he married Louise Hutchinson in Hot Springs, Ark. She survives.
Survivors include three grandsons: Scott Shubin, Craig Shubin and Danny Shubin all of Fresno, Calif.; five great-grandchildren; and special friends, James and Thelma King of Poplar Bluff.
His parents, Frank and Janette (Smithison) Hutchinson and daughter, Renee Shubin preceded Mr. Hutchinson in death.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 - 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. A graveside service with full military honors will follow at 2 p.m. in the Veterans section of the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery with the Rev. Calvin Buhler officiating.
