Fred F. Stenger, 57, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Poplar Bluff Regional Hospital.
Mr. Stenger was born March 24, 1957, in St. Louis, MO, to John Francis and Nelva Jean Horton Stenger.
On September 17, 1983, he and Kimberly Whitfield were married in Poplar Bluff. She survives of the home.
Mr. Stenger was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he also served as choir director; and worked as an R.N. at John J. Pershing V.A. Medical Center. He enjoyed all things with nature and started the Ozark Trail Club. Mr. Stenger was an avid outdoorsman and hiker. He had hiked over 900 miles of the Appalachian Trails. He also enjoyed kayaking, pontoon boating, scuba diving and pottery.
Along with his wife, he is survived by his two children: Katie Stenger, of Nashville, TN, and JonAndrew Stenger, of Poplar Bluff; his parents, John and Nelva Stenger of Campbell, MO; a sister, Alice Noall, of Poplar Bluff; sisters-in-law: Karen Slicer (Bill), of Jonesboro, AR, Pam Rublaitus (Don) and Maria Stenger, all of Poplar Bluff; his father-in-law, Robert Whitfield, of Poplar Bluff; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A daughter, K'Leigh Stenger and a brother, John Forrest Stenger, both preceded him in death.
Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 p.m. at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. Funeral services will be held Monday beginning at 10 a.m. at the LDS chapel with Bishop Robb Bledsoe officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
