Fredie Fred J. Talcott

Fredie ""Fred"" J. Talcott, 78, of Poplar Bluff, died Thursday, April 3, 2014 at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.

Mr. Talcott was born Oct. 12, 1935 in Poplar Bluff to the late Preston G. and Phebe J. Malone Talcott. He was of the Baptist faith, had retired as owner and operator of Talcott Sheetrock Co. Mr. Talcott was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and had retired after proudly serving his country for over 19 years. He was a member of the Poplar Bluff Elks Lodge and the American Legion. Mr. Talcott enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf, water skiing, fishing, bowling, and playing the card game, Bunco

On Dec. 23, 1976, he married Wanda McGee in Poplar Bluff. She preceded him in death on Sept. 18, 2008.

Survivors include the mother of his children, Glenda Faye Stucker, of Poplar Bluff; five children: Theresa Tolliver (Terry), Jane McNamee, (Jerry) and Susie Talcott, all of Poplar Bluff, Ricky Talcott (Debby), of Campbell, and John Talcott (Margie), of Salt Lake City, Utah; a stepson, Nathan Brown, of Poplar Bluff; seven grandchildren: Richard Talcott, Rebecca McElrath, Christy Martin, Nicholas McNamee, Preston Talcott, Levi Hart and Dane Brown; five great-grandchildren; and four sisters: Mary Jane Bankston and Doris Garner, and Bessie Chilton, all of DeSoto, Mo. and Helen Lipsey, of Arnold, Mo.

A sister, Ruth Ann Talcott and a brother, Roy Talcott also preceded Mr. Talcott in death.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. An Elks service will begin at 1 p.m. in the Chapel with the funeral service following. Chaplain Bill Hatch will officiate. Interment with full military honors will be at Black Creek Cemetery in Butler County.
