Gary Richard Douglas, 52, of Poplar Bluff died unexpectedly Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Douglas was born Jan. 18, 1960 in Cairo, Ill. He had retired from the U.S. Air Force, and during his 20 years of service had received an Air Force Achievement Medal with 2 devices, Air Force Commendation Medal with 1 device, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 4 devices, Air Force Training Ribbon, Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon with 5 devices, Air Force Overseas Tour Ribbon with 2 devices, National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Air Force BMT Honor Graduate Ribbon, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon with 1 device, NATO Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 2 devices, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 5 devices, and Armed Forces Service Medal. Mr. Douglas was presently working at Kohlfield Distributing Inc. in Poplar Bluff. He enjoyed being outdoors, collecting guns, hunting, and fishing.
Survivors include a son, Matthew R. Douglas of Hampton, Va.; his mother, Faye (Wells) Douglas of St. Louis, Mo.; four sisters, Patricia Hosey and Charlotte Tidwell, both of Sikeston, Mo., Rita Cooksey, of Poplar Bluff and Sarah J. Wolffer of St. Louis, Mo.; and a brother, Kenneth Dean Douglas also of Sikeston, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Funeral Chapel with Pastor Gregory Kirk officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo.
