Gary Wayne Hoover, 70, of Poplar Bluff passed away Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Hoover was born Feb. 6, 1943 in Kansas City, Mo. He was a 1961 graduate of Raytown High School in Raytown, Mo. and attended the University of Missouri as well as Central Missouri State College. During his high school and college years, Mr. Hoover set school and state records in pole vault and track. He was a member of the Professional Golf Assoc. and was a Club Pro at Shamrock Hills Golf Course in Lee's Summit, Mo. for 27 years having retired in 1997. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, scuba diving, bowling and outdoor activities. Mr. Hoover was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Poplar Bluff.
Survivors include his wife, Vicky Lynn Welty Hoover of the home; a brother, Donald Hoover (Linda) of Warrensburg, Mo.; and a sister-in-law, Toni Hoover of Peculiar, MO.
His parents. Wade and Fern Hoover, and a brother, Raymond Hoover preceded him in death.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Stewart officiating.
