Gary Ray Miller

April 1, 1954 — May 7, 2026

Poplar Bluff, Missouri

Gary Ray Miller, 72, of Poplar Bluff, MO, passed away on May 7, 2026, in the comfort of his home.

Gary was born on April 1, 1954, to Ray and Alpha (Kearbey) Miller in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He married Janice (Tibbs) Miller on May 25, 1980, whom he deeply loved.

Gary studied History at Southwest Missouri State University (MSU). He began his work with the H.A.L.T. program and then became a juvenile officer. His commitment to public safety led him to a career at Probation and Parole where he worked for over 25 years and was highly regarded by his peers. He possessed sound judgment, personal integrity, and excellent managerial and leadership skills. His clients expressed their appreciation for his dedication to their successful reintegration into society.

Gary was a member of Bay Springs Baptist Church for many years before later attending and becoming a member of First Church of God in Poplar Bluff. He was very active and enjoyed a wide range of hobbies and activities including reading, running, racquetball, tennis, softball, and traveling. He especially enjoyed exploring the National Park system and places of historical significance with his family. He was not a homebody and was always ready to go - even if that meant going to Kroger or Menards.

He received the greatest enjoyment and pride from his three girls and grandchildren. Any day they were visiting in person or on the phone was a good day. Family was important to him and he was always ready and willing to help when needed. Whether it was babysitting, moving someone, helping in the hay fields or putting on a roof, he was always available to lend a hand.

Gary is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 46 years, Janice; three daughters, Lindsey (Parker) Williams of Oxford, England; Meagan (Logan) Bader of Poplar Bluff; and Katelyn Miller of Norman, OK; sister, Connie Warren; nephew, Kyle and niece, Lesley Ann; four grandchildren, Davis, Charlotte, Samuel, and Rowan; a brother in law, Greg (Jolanda) Tibbs and nephews, John (Emily) , Chase, and Hunter Tibbs; along with numerous extended family members and friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Alpha Miller and in-laws John and Mary Ellen Tibbs.
