Gelene Powell

Gelene Powell, 74, of Naylor died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009 at her residence.

Mrs. Powell was born Dec. 9, 1934 in Grassy, Mo. She was an active member of Bays Spring Baptist Church, and was a homemaker. Mrs. Powell previously worked at McNeely's Shoe Store as well as Uncle Joe's Discount Store. She enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren, working in her church, playing the piano and singing, cooking for her family, flower gardening and traveling.

On Aug. 10, 1951 she married the Elder Cletis H. Powell. He survives.

In addition to her husband of 58 years other survivors include a daughter, Daurice Jean Spencer and husband Leon of Lake City, Fla.; 4 sons: Cletis Wayne Powell and wife Crickett of Oxly, Kenneth Douglas Powell and wife Cheri of Rogers, Ark., Ricky Martin Powell and wife Dianne of Oxly and Phillip Edwin Powell of Taylorsville, N.C.; 16 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Laverne Gohn of Wood River, Ill.; and a brother, Douglas Farmer and wife Shirley of Brighton, Ill.

Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her parents, Martin Luther and Hazel Dell (Beasley) Farmer, a son, Timothy Lyle Powell, two sisters and a brother.

Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Friday in the Chapel. Burial will be at Bays Spring Cemetery in Butler County.
