George William Barbre, 86, of Doniphan, Mo., died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 at Westwood Hills Healthcare Center in Poplar Bluff.
Mr. Barbre was born May 24, 1926 in Matthews, Mo. He was a 32nd Degree Mason at the Masonic Composite Lodge 369 in Doniphan, and had retired from the U.S. Army after over 21 years of service. Mr. Barbre called and taught square dancing, and was a ham radio operator as well. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, watching St. Louis Cardinal's baseball, woodworking and fishing.
On Aug. 4, 1948, he married the former Doris Marjorie Wendt. She preceded him in death in June of 1999.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Barbre of Doniphan; daughter-in-law, Angie Barbre of New Mexico; 2 grandchildren, Matthew Barbre and Angela Moss; 2 great-grandchildren, Mark Nelson and Christopher Barbre; 3 sisters, Ravenna Grissom, Martha Morris and Betty Jean Mowery all of New Madrid, Mo.; and a brother, James Barbre and wife, Ruby of New Madrid, Mo.
Mr. Barbre's parents, Fred and Goldie (Summers) Barbre, son, Dave Barbre, and great-granddaughter, Emily Ann Barbre also preceded him in death.
A Memorial Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff with Rev. Kent Harding officiating. A graveside service with full military honors will follow at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo.
