George T. Jackson, 93, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Jackson, the son of the late Charles N. and Roxie Stout Jackson, was born Nov. 17, 1923 in Poynor, Mo. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Poplar Bluff and was a charter member of the Poplar Bluff Elks Lodge. He was the owner and operator of Jackson’s Auto Clinic, a full service Shell gas station, located on the east side of Poplar Bluff for over 40 years. George was an excellent mechanic and was considered one of the best carburetor rebuilders in the area.
Mr. Jackson proudly served his country in the U.S. Army based in occupied Japan after WWII. While serving in Yokahama he was a theatre operator showing movies to the troops. After returning to Poplar Bluff he briefly worked at the Rodgers Theatre. He was an avid bowler, playing in leagues and sponsoring teams for several years. In addition, he loved the St. Louis Cardinals, boating on Lake Wappapello and doing yard work.
George was a dedicated father to his two sons. He was affectionately known as “Daddy Action” by many of his son’s friends who would regularly gather at his house to eat, play pool and watch football on Sunday afternoons.
On July 1, 1950, he married Betty Scott in Pollard Ark.
Survivors include two children, Doug (Angie) Jackson of Poplar Bluff and Greg Jackson of Jackson, TN.; one grandchild, Leah Faith Jackson; and two sisters, Virginia (Pete) Pridy of St. Louis, Mo. and Ruth (Bob) Beelman of Minnesota; and a sister in law, Arlene Jackson. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
A brother, John Jackson preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Byron Beck officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at the Poynor Cemetery in Ripley County.
