George Herbert Warren

George Herbert Warren, 90, of Poplar Bluff died Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Warren was born March 12, 1921 in Mt. Levi, Ark. He was a member of Highland Drive Church of Christ in Poplar Bluff, and in 1978 had retired from General Motors in Flint, Mich. Mr. Warren was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in WWII, and served in the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps). He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and gardening.

On Oct. 4, 1946, he married Lula Caroline Mays in New Madrid, Mo. She survives.

Other survivors include three children, Patricia Shephard and husband John of Rapidan, Va., Kenneth Warren and wife Connie of Wappapello and Andy Warren and wife Mary of Corinth, Tex.; 9 grandchildren, Tom Shephard and wife Jill, Ryan Shephard and wife Lisa, Darrin Shephard and wife Heather, Wendy Nepean and husband Bobby, Becky Evins and husband Brad, Andrea McAtee and husband Jeremy, Adam Warren and wife Lil, Mandy Mobley and husband Shawn and Joe Warren and wife Christy; 22 great-grandchildren; a sister, Rena Andrews of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; and 2 brothers, Clyde Warren of Marion, Ind. and Ray Warren of Wingo, Ky.

His parents, George Washington and Rhoda Lund Warren,sisters, Esther Thacker, Helen Wiley and Myrtle Kreminski and brothers, Leonard Warren and Harley Dean Warren preceded Mr. Warren in death.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Highland Drive Church of Christ with Mr. Vernon Curry officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at 3 p.m. at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo.
