Gerald Marvin Hicks

Gerald Marvin Hicks, 87, of Poplar Bluff, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Marvin was born Jan. 7, 1925 in Datto, AR. He was a member of First General Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff, and had retired from John J. Pershing VA Medical Center after 37 years as boiler plant operator. Marvin was a veteran of the U.S. Marines having served during WWII, and was a member of NARFE. He enjoyed music, and during earlier years he played in a band, which was broadcast over the radio. Marvin also enjoyed spending time with his family, farming, working with his cattle, and yard work.
On Feb. 5, 1944, he married Mildred A. Adams in Corning, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on Nov. 21, 2012.
Survivors include five children, Gerald Mack Hicks (Judy), of Tallahassee, Fla., Loren Dale Hicks (Carolyn), of Williamsville, Jimmy Lawson Hicks (Vicki), of Farmington, Terry Wayne Hicks (Renae), of Poplar Bluff, and Karen Lea Throckmorton, of Atlanta, Ga.; ten grandchildren, David Hicks (Sharon), Gerald Hicks (Beth), Teresa Webb (Chris), Brian Hicks (Amanda), Jeffrey Hicks (Angela), Jamie Tullock (Michael), Corey Hicks (Sara), Allison Bell (Greg), Kathi Edwards (Chris) and Jennifer Throckmorton; and eighteen great-grandchildren.
His parents, Euriah H. ""Pete"" Hicks and Minnie Jenkins Hicks, son-in-law, Randy Throckmorton, sister, Bertie Hicks, and eight brothers, Jesse Hicks, Elbie Hicks, Franklin Hicks, twins, Earl Hicks and Shearl Hicks, Jeffry Hicks, Denver Hicks and Loren Hicks preceded Marvin in death.
Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral chapel with Rev. Jim Schremp officiating. Burial will be at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
