Geraldine Gerry Wooten Carpenter

Geraldine ""Gerry"" Carpenter, 89, of Poplar Bluff passed away Monday, May 13, 2013 at her residence.

Mrs. Carpenter was born Aug. 1, 1923 in Poplar Bluff. She was a member of The First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff, and was a homemaker. Mrs. Carpenter had earlier retired from a shoe company, and later had worked at Steak and Shake Restaurant while living in St. Louis. She loved to sing, and along with her sisters sang in a quartet. Mrs. Carpenter loved to spend time with her family, especially with her nieces and nephews, loved animals, and enjoyed playing bingo, fishing, flower gardening, and working in her yard.

On June 6, 1940, she married Youeal Carpenter. He preceded her in death on Oct. 4, 1984.

Survivors include a daughter, Judith Carpenter, of Poplar Bluff; two sisters, Mary Temple and Alma Jean Gulledge, both of Poplar Bluff; and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents, George and Beulah Sanders Wooten, and three sisters, Lora Barnhill, Marie Winder and Velma Perry, and a brother, Jess Wooten also preceded Mrs. Carpenter in death.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral chapel with Dr. William Vail officiating. Burial will follow at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
