Gladys Mayse Soens

Gladys Mayse Soens, 93, of Poplar Bluff died Monday, Aug. 3, 2009 at her residence.
Mrs. Soens was born Sept. 20, 1915 in Poplar Bluff. She was of the Baptist faith, and was a homemaker. During the earlier years prior to her marriage she taught school in a one room schoolhouse. Mrs. Soens enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren, quilting and reading.
On July 7, 1945 she was married to Robert F. Soens in St. Louis. He preceded her in death on March 22, 1996.
Survivors include three children: Susan Davenport and her husband Roy of Chesapeake, Va., Russell Soens and his wife Karen of Poplar Bluff and Patty Gunn and her husband Al of Alamogordo, N.M.; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Easter Spencer, Mary Bland and June Hyde all of Poplar Bluff; and a brother, Thomas Mayse of Indianapolis, Ind. A graveside service and burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at New Oak Hill Cemetery with Pastor Peter Soens officiating.
