Gladys E. ?Betty? Stanley, 90, formerly of Poplar Bluff, died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011 at Cypress Point in Dexter.
Mrs. Stanley was born May 20, 1921 in Knox County, Ind. She was a well-known retired businesswoman in Poplar Bluff for many years. Mrs. Stanley was founder and owner of La Boutique Gift Shop for 20 years; and co-owner and operator of Stanley?s Cleaners and Laundry with her spouse, A.W. ?Bud? Stanley for 20 years. She was a long-time member of the First Christian Church of Poplar Bluff; and a long-time member of the Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce, Altrusa Service Club for Women, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Stanley of Conway, Ark. and Martha Thompson and husband Larry of Dexter; two grandchildren, Stephanie Thompson-Long and Jon Thompson; two great-grandchildren, Ann Marie Long and Mattie Pearl Thompson all of Dexter; and a sister, Joann Wentworth of The Dalles, Oreg.
Her husband, A.W. ?Bud? Stanley preceded Mrs. Stanley in death in 1999. Her parents, Oliver and Maude Wheeler and three sisters, Betty Carter, Alma Goatly and Jean Largent preceded her as well.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the Chapel with Dr. Steven Williams officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
