Grace Catherine Fondren

Grace Catherine Fondren, 93, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at Oakdale Care Center.

Mrs. Fondren was born September 6, 1920 in Doniphan, MO, to the late Charlie and Lucy Mae (Collins) Wells.

On August 12, 1940, she married Clarence Fondren in Poplar Bluff. He preceded her in death on November 17, 2004.

Mrs. Fondren was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member of WMA and taught Sunday school for many years. She was a retired bank teller and a member of the Cardinal Red Hat Chapter of the Red Hat Society. Mrs. Fondren enjoyed spending time with her family, and doing ceramics and puzzles.

She is survived by a sister, Alberta Henthorn of St. Louis; her niece and caregiver, Louise Stagner and her husband Bob, of Poplar Bluff; and many other nieces and nephews.

Her brothers, Eugene Wells, Jack Wells, Ed Wells, Norman Emery and Carl Emery, and a sister, Norma Emery also preceded her in death.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral chapel with Rev. Matt Johnson officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Garden Cemetery.
