Grover Dalton Scott, 93, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., died Saturday, March 30, 2019 at his residence after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Scott was born July 26, 1925, Fisk, Mo. He was an active member of Bluff City Apostolic Worship Center. His employment ranged from a truck driver at his father’s sawmill in the early years, a lineman with REA (Rural Electric Association), a truck driver for Robinson Lumber Company, a serviceman at OTASCO (Oklahoma Tire & Supply Company), a part time employee for Lyman Bagby at Bagby Radio Cab, wired new homes being built in local area, did repair and overhauled vehicles at home during his lay off time from Porter DeWitt Ready Mix of Poplar Bluff and retired after 35 years as a teamster truck driver of cement tankers, lowboy trailers for transporting heavy equipment, cement mixers and a painter of the company trucks in their shop bay area. Mr. Scott later worked at Twin Oaks Ready Mix for Eli Goodrum. A devoted husband, father and church member he enjoyed spending his time serving church needs. He also worked on lawn mowers for his community at home in a small shop until the age of 92.
On November 26. 1949 he married Ruby Ellen Freeman (deceased) in Piggott, Ark.
Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Richardson-Boyers and her husband, Melvin, of Dexter, Mo.; one son, Gary L. Scott and his wife Edith (Edie) of Poplar Bluff; one granddaughter. KellyAnn, her husband, Tim Smith of Valley View, Texas; four grandsons, Kurt Richardson, his wife Melissa (Missy) and Daniel Scott all from Poplar Bluff; Brian Scott of Clubb, Mo. and Christopher Scott, his wife Melissa of Pennsylvania; three great-granddaughters, Blake Smith of Valley View, Texas, Madyson and Julia Scott of Poplar Bluff, Natalie Scott of Ellington, Mo., McKenna Scott of Pa.; three great-grandsons Jacob Smith of Dallas, Texas, Kyle and Kody Richardson of Poplar Bluff, Dalton Scott of Clubb, Mo., Noah Scott of Pa.; two great-great granddaughters Scarlette Roberts and Cheyenne Caulfield of Valley View, Texas; one great-great grandson Jameson Caulfield of Valley View, Texas; one sister, Betty Prater, her husband, Calvin, of Fredericktown, Mo.; step-grandchildren, Angela Boyers-Fisher of Page, Ariz., Jessica and husband, Lee Spencer, of Jackson, Mo., Anna Collins of Lakecity, Ark. and Norman Collins III of Poplar Bluff.
Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Ellen (Freeman) Scott; a son, Dennis Dalton Scott; parents, E.O. and Birth (Daughhetee) Scott; six brothers, Thomas, Joseph, Clayton, William, Lewis and Donald Scott; one sister, Margaret Gardner.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and funeral services following at 1 p.m. at Bluff City Apostolic Worship Center, 200 Walnut St., Poplar Bluff. Bishop Jerry Williams officiating and Rev. Ted Elledge reading eulogy. Burial will be at Sparkman Cemetery in Butler County.
