H. Ray "Speedie" Rains

H. Ray “Speedie” Rains, 70, of Puxico, Mo., passed away Friday, Oct. 5, 2018 at his residence with his loving family by his side.

Ray or “Speedie” as he was fondly known by his friends, was the son of the late Herschel L. and Pauline Scott Rains. He was born July 18, 1948 in Poplar Bluff, and was of the Methodist faith. Speedie was a former restaurant owner for 17 years as well as an entrepreneur of many other business ventures. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and playing cards. Speedie also was a devoted St. Louis Cardinal’s fan. His greatest treasure was time spent with his loving companion of 30 years Donna Siler, and his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family members.

Survivors include Donna Siler of the home; four children, Kevin Ray Rains of Nixa, Mo., Allison (Ed) Rains-Coach of Boca Raton, Fla. and Michael Siler and Todd Siler of Puxico; seven grandchildren, Jackson Rains, Ryan Coach, Chelsey Kelley, Christopher Siler, Carley Siler, Brandon Siler and Abbiegayle Siler; two great-grandchildren, Hunter Smith and Kolton Kelley; two brothers, Joe (Joan) Rains of Kansas City, Mo. and Lynn Rains of Piedmont; a sister, Sue (Don) Rollins of Springfield; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

The visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral chapel with Rev. Justin Miller officiating. Burial will be at Kearbey Cemetery.
