Harold D. Turpin, 92, formerly of Poplar Bluff, MO, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012 at the Christian Health Care Center in Hermitage, MO.
Mr. Turpin was born Sept. 8, 1920 in Senath, MO. He had retired as a Maintenance Supervisor for The Cedargate Care Center in Poplar Bluff. Mr. Turpin was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, raising a flower and vegetable garden and boasted of his acres of blackberries.
His wife, Wilma Lee Scott, two sisters Vivian and Helen Rose of the St. Louis area, his parents, Robert Jefferson Turpin and Lydia Turnbow Turpin of Senath, MO, preceded him in death.
Survivors include three children, Sharon Edgin of Bernie, MO, Harold Turpin (Carolyn), of St. Louis, MO and Mike Turpin (Pamela), of Hermitage, MO; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ed Turpin, of Des Moines, IA.
Harold and Wilma Turpin were active members of the First Assembly of God Church when they resided in Poplar Bluff. They often hosted traveling evangelists and enjoyed fellowship with neighbors and associates.
For many years Mr. Turpin served as president for the Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship. Also, he was an inspirational speaker and representative for the Gideon Organization.
Mr. Turpin was an avid storyteller. His ability to recall events from early years prior was unique and entertaining. But most of all, he loved to talk about God, and give thanks for having had such a blessed life!
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the funeral chapel with Rev. Richard Triplett officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
