Helen L. Barks

Helen Louise Barks, 74, of Poplar Bluff died Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Westwood Hills Healthcare Center in Poplar Bluff.

Mrs. Barks was born July 21, 1934 in Pekin, Ill. She was of the Lutheran faith, and was a homemaker. Mrs. Barks enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking and reading.

On June 18, 1980 she married James O. Barks in Pekin, Ill. He survives.

Other survivors include her daughter, Linda Hielscher and husband Thomas of House Springs; granddaughters: Carly Compton and Lilly Compton; step-children: Kirk Barks and wife Marilyn of Cape Girardeau, Kendal Barks and wife Debi and Debbie Winters and husband Tom all of Poplar Bluff; step-grandchildren, Kyle West, Cameron West, Christopher Barks and Brantly James; and brothers, Alan Freed and Russell Freed both of Green Valley, Ill.

Her parents, Otis and Hattie (Benjamin) Freed, son, Robert Zielinski and sister, Florence Thompson preceded Mrs. Barks in death.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
