Helen B. (Doty) Smith

Helen B. Smith, 90, of Poplar Bluff died Friday, Sept. 21, 2012 at her residence.

Mrs. Smith was born May 14, 1922 in Williamsville, Mo. She was a member of First Baptist Church, and was a homemaker. During her early years she worked at the Sears Catalog Store. Mrs. Smith enjoyed spending time with and traveling with her family, church activities, sewing and camping.

Her first husband, Charles Edward Fisher preceded her in death on May 26, 1952. On Feb. 14, 1975, she married Charles Clayton Smith in Poplar Bluff. He preceded her in death on Aug. 7, 2010.

Survivors include six children: Linda Gilmore and husband, Virgil of Poplar Bluff, Sandra Thomas and husband, Gary of Portageville, Mo., Karen Gutierrez and husband, Marcus, Mary Dille and husband, Jim, and Cindy Benson all of Poplar Bluff, and Diana Wadlington and husband, Pete of Scott City, Mo.; three stepchildren, Charlie Smith and wife, Sharon of Hot Spring, Ark., Kathy Vineyard and husband, Frank of Cape Girardeau, Mo. and Becky Hammond of Holly Hills, Fla.: 44 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Jackie Townsend and Geri Long both of Poplar Bluff; and a brother, George Doty of Poplar Bluff.

Her parents, Raymond and Mary Pearl (Spencer) Doty, daughter, Janice Ann Riels, son, Charles Wayne Fisher, granddaughter, Miranda Myatt, sister, Billie McKeel and brother, Howard Doty also preceded Mrs. Smith in death.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with Dr. William Vail officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
