Henry T. Dittmer

Henry Thomas ""Hank"" Dittmer, 95, of Shook, Mo. died Monday, June 13, 2011 at his residence.

Mr. Dittmer was born July 1, 1915 in Alton, Ill. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he also served as Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist for Sacred Heart Parish. Mr. Dittmer retired in 1978 as a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in St. Louis, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in WWII. He was a member of the American Legion, and was a member and former President of N.A.R.F.E. (National Association of Retired Federal Employees). Mr. Dittmer enjoyed spending time with his family, being outdoors, watching baseball and reading.

On Nov. 28, 1964, he married Dorothy Coleman Wigger in Macon, Ill. She survives.

Other survivors include a son, Thomas Wynn Dittmer and wife Karen of Cary, N.C.; 4 step-children, Larry Wigger of Bonne Terre, Mo., Carmen Coss and husband Robert of Wilton, Iowa, Jimmie Wigger also of Bonne Terre, Mo. and Sharon Graham of Farmington, Mo.; 2 grandchildren, Jason Dittmer and Tracie Otto; 9 step-grandchildren, Cindy Wigger, Tammy Nickles and husband Jeff, Linda Wigger, Jane Ann Swanson and husband Dan, Beth Welch and husband Dave, Leslie Miner and husband Bob, Julie Pratt and husband Bruce, Jeannie Brooks and husband Kenneth and Rebecca Young; 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Fuchs and husband Charles of Maryland Heights, Mo.

Mr. Dittmer was preceded in death by his parents, Henry William and Grace Snellgrove Dittmer, granddaughter, Kelly LaMasters and sisters, Emma Bectold, Grace Morrow and Lilly Schmidt.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 1 P.M. Friday Cotrell Funeral Chapel with Father Joseph Kappilumakkal Mathai, CMI officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Shook, Mo.
