Herschel L. Rains

Herschel Lavern Rains, 92, of Poplar Bluff passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Rains was born on January 27, 1921 in Williamsville, MO to Wes and Vela King Rains. He served in the Army during World War II, and was owner and operator of Rains Livestock until his retirement. Mr. Rains was a former member of Wappapello Methodist Church. He loved music, especially bluegrass, and as an avid outdoorsman he especially enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He and Pauline Agnes Scott were married on September 13, 1941 in Poplar Bluff. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his children; Sue Rains Rollins (Don) of Springfield, MO, Joe Rains (Joan) of Bethel, MO, Lynn Rains of Piedmont, and Ray Rains and fiance, Donna Siler, both of Wappapello, 10 grandchildren; Scott Rollins, Angie Buch, Larry Joe Rains, Wesley Rains, Kim Henderson, Kevin Rains, Allison Coach, Lisa Mitchell, Matt Rains, and Mike Rains; 23 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother; J.D. Rains, and a sister; Helen LeGrand Goff.

Visitation will be Friday from 6-8p.m. at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be Saturday at 11:30 at the chapel with Pastor Vernon Kneir officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
