Hildred Marguerite Crow, 104, of Springfield, Mo., formerly of Poplar Bluff, died Friday, Sept. 23, 2016 in Springfield.
She was born Nov. 6, 1911, at Poplar Bluff, to John P. Howard and Eva A. (Mills) Howard.
Mrs. Crow was educated in Poplar Bluff public schools, graduating in 1929. Thereafter, she moved with her parents and two sisters to Detroit, Mich. She married Charles Harold Crow there in 1934.
In 1937, she, he and their two-year old son, John, moved back to Poplar Bluff, where Mr. Crow owned and operated a gasoline and tire business for the next 42 years.
He retired in 1979, after which she and he enjoyed traveling and socializing with friends for many years at Westwood Hills Country Club. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a trip to the Hawaiian Islands in 1984.
Mr. Crow died April 18, 200. Mrs. Crow continued to reside in Poplar Bluff until 2009, when she moved to Springfield.
She was a lifelong member of First Christian Church of Poplar Bluff. An avid bridge player, she competed regularly in duplicate events here and played socially with several groups. After moving to Springfield, she played twice a week at a senior center and once a week with her "IHOP Foursome." She was a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents and two sisters: Artellah Sardinha and Lattie Ghent.
She is survived by hers son, John Crow, and his wife, Janet, of Springfield, and two granddaughters: Gretchen Dexter (Phil) of Springfield, and Adrienne Crow of Marina del Ray, Calif. She is also survived by a niece, Dorothy Pickering (Jim) of Bellevue, Ohio, and two nephews: Larry Sardinha (Bonnie) of Centerburg, Ohio, and Jeff Ghent (Sandra Lessenden) of Oakland, Calif.
Pursuant to Mrs. Crow's long-standing instructions, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 30, 2016 at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Arrangements are under direction of Cotrell Funeral Service.
Memorial donations may be made to the Poplar Bluff Public Library.
