Howard Thomas Ballew, Sr., of Poplar Bluff died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008 at the John McClelland VA Medical Center, in Little Rock, Ark.
Mr. Ballew was born Feb. 14, 1925, in Fredericktown, Mo. He was a member of Walton Chapel Church; was retired after 34 years with Missouri Pacific; and was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Ballew enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, taking care of others, fishing and hunting and Bluegrass Gospel music.
On Feb. 24, 1945, he was married to Nadine E. Johnson. She preceded him in death on March 22, 2002.
Survivors include his daughter, Glenda Lawson, of Cabot, Ark.; son, Howard T. Ballew, Jr., of Doniphan; 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Retha May, of Delta, Mo. and Ruby, of Junction City, Kansas.
Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Friday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel, in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Chapel with the Rev. Kenny Condray officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Woodlawn section of the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
