Hursel Slim Newingham

Hursel ""Slim"" Newingham, 87, of Poplar Bluff died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012 at the Missouri Veteran's Home in Cape Girardeau.

Mr. Newingham was born Feb. 6, 1924 in Grandin, Mo. He was of the Baptist faith, and had retired from Riley Tar and Chemical Company. Mr. Newingham was also a veteran of the U.S. Army. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and being a jack-of-all-trades he especially enjoyed restoring old knives, woodworking, sewing and fishing.

He was married to the former Nina Jo Manis, who preceded him in death in 1970.

Survivors include three children: Jerry Lee Newingham and wife Debby of Earle, Ark., Tammy Lynn Smith and husband David and John Kirk Hursel Newingham all of Poplar Bluff; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

His parents, George Elmer and Melinda (Smith) Newingham also preceded him in death.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
