Jack Downing

Jack Downing, 84, of Williamsville, MO, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at his residence.

Mr. Downing was born February 7, 1930 in Armorel, AR to the late Rufus Franklin and Bessie Lucille Mangum Downing.

On May 10, 1952, he and Jessie E. Sinks were married in Piggott, AR. She survives of the home.

Mr. Downing was of the Baptist faith. He had retired from the United States Navy, and later worked in the auto department at Montgomery Wards for 10 years before retiring in 1992 from Fisher Auto. He enjoyed spending time with his family, NASCAR, camping, hunting and fishing.

Other survivors include his children: Jack (Buzz) Downing (Debbie), of Poplar Bluff, MO, Linda D. Downing Brown, of Jefferson, City, MO, and Jeff L. Downing (Tina), of Williamsville, MO; 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and four brothers: R.C. Downing (Mary), Carroll Downing (Lena), all of Frostpoof, FL, Charles (Sonny) Downing (Geneva), of Roxanna, IL, and Rufus Berneal Downing (Kay), of Woodriver, IL.

His children, Patricia Gail Downing Ice, Jamie (Buckwheat) Lamar Downing, Julie Ann Downing Boyer Russell, and Jerry Downing also preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 6 ? 8 p.m. Thursday, at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the chapel with the Rev. Billy Orr officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
