Jacob Henry "Jake" Baumgardner

Mr. Jacob Henry "Jake" Baumgardner, 90, of Poplar Bluff, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 2015 at the Convalescent Care Center in Sikeston.

Mr. Baumgardner was born Dec. 7, 1924 in Pine, Mo. to the late Abraham and Nina (Gordon) Baumgardner. He was of the Baptist faith and had retired after over 20 years as a teacher with the Poplar Bluff R 1 School District. Mr. Baumgardner proudly served his country for five years in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Poplar Bluff Republican Party. He also served on the Poplar Bluff City Council. Mr. Baumgardner enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf.

On Oct. 14, 1951, he married the former Virginia Avery in Pocahontas, Ark. She preceded him in death on Jan. 18, 2002.

Survivors include two children: Judy (Ken) Hughey of Manhattan, Kans. and Marsha (Robert) McCluskey of Poplar Bluff; six grandchildren: Jake Hughey, Becca Hughey, Josh Hughey, Tess Butler, Tory McCluskey and Tara McCluskey; and two sisters: Leta White and Roberta Layton both of Dexter.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel with the funeral service following at 11 a.m. The Rev. Steve Patterson will officiate. Interment with full military honors will be at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
