James Wesley Armstrong

August 5, 1952 — December 30, 2017

James W. Armstrong, 65, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

James was born Aug. 5, 1952 in Poplar Bluff to the late James L. and Lucille Diamond Armstrong. He graduated from Normandy High School in St. Louis and proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1971 to 1975. James worked for 42 years at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center and was due to retire in March. He loved to spend time with his family – especially his granddaughters who were the apples of his eyes. He enjoyed fishing, collecting lures and watching television with his sons.

James was married to the love of his life, Margaret Ann Harris on June 5, 1976 in Poplar Bluff. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons Chris L. Armstrong and Justin R. Armstrong of Poplar Bluff; two granddaughters Andrea Armstrong and Madelyn Armstrong of Poplar Bluff; a sister Janet L. Harting of Troy, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 12 p.m. Thursday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel with the funeral service following at 1 p.m. His nephews, Rev. Timothy Harting and Rev. Jason Harting will officiate. Interment with full military honors will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
