James Hollis, 54, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Hollis was born Feb. 22, 1959 in Pemiscot County, Mo. He attended Loving Jesus Ministries Church, and had retired after 24 years with the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Hollis enjoyed spending time with his family, watching the St. Louis Cardinals, and was an avid reader of history books and National Geographic magazines. He loved to listen to gospel music as well as Motown, blues, contemporary and rock and roll.
Survivors include his children: Sherice (Hollis) Sims of New York, NY and Laron T. Hollis of Amityville, NY; his mother, Mary C. Morris Hollis of Poplar Bluff; seven grandchildren; a sister, Ruther Miller Anderson (Charles) of Poplar Bluff; two brothers; Andrew Hollis (Dianna) and Dennis Hollis (Emma); and a brother-in-law, Ferdie Reed, Jr., who was like a brother to him.
His father, Rise Hollis, Sr., a sister, Churise Reed and two brothers, Rise Hollis, Jr. and Ray D. Hollis preceded him in death.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013 at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral chapel with Rev. John McCain officiating. Interment with full military honors will be at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
