James Boyd “Jimmy” Johnson, 59, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, after a short illness. Since childhood, he dealt with diabetes mellitus type 1 (juvenile diabetes) with dignity, grace, and courage.
Jimmy, also known as “JB,” the son of the late Cecil R. “Cobb” Johnson and Clara E. “Betty” Johnson, was born November 1, 1960 in Poplar Bluff, at the former Brandon Hospital, as were his five siblings. He attended Poplar Bluff Senior High, and was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church. He worked for many years at the City, Light, and Water Company.
Jimmy enjoyed fishing, boating, and hunting. He was especially skilled at assembling model ships, both large ones, and small ships-in-a-bottle, and generously bestowed his most prized pieces as gifts of gratitude to his various doctors, friends, and family members.
He was preceded in death by his younger brother Phillip Mark, and his two parents.
Survivors include one sister, Susanne Johnson of Dallas, TX.; three brothers -- William Franklin "Bill" Johnson and his wife Lois Ann of Great Bend, KS.; John Robert Johnson and his wife Janice of Hollister, MO., David Allen Johnson and his wife Brenda of Colcord, OK.; and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.
A graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Woodlawn Cemetery, with the Rev. William F. Johnson, Rev. Susanne Johnson, Mr. David Johnson, and Rev. Frank Chlastak officiating –followed by visitation and a light lunch at First Christian Church, 1601 N. Main Street.
