James Samuel Martin, 90, of Doniphan, Mo., passed away Saturday Dec. 20, 2014 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis.
Mr. Martin was born July 30, 1924 in Newark, Md. to the late Miledge Hampton and Edna Mae (West) Martin. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and had retired from the U.S. Marines after 27 years of service. During his tenure Mr. Martin served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, gardening, carpentry, welding, and working on projects all the time.
On June 30, 1961, he was married to the former Mary Louise Merrill in Mesa, Ariz. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include four children: James M. Martin (Kelly) of Republic, Mo., Jimi Carol Regan (James) of Vero Beach, Fla., Debbra Sue Martin of Texas and Diane Martin of California; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, William Hampton Martin (Carolyn) of Ocean Springs, Miss.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29th at the Church with Bishop Robert Bledsoe officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at noon Monday at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo.
