James “Jim” Robert Nutter, 69, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. He suffered from complications after an accident in 2012 which left him paralyzed.
Mr. Nutter was born in Poplar Bluff, Mo. on Nov. 13, 1945, to Carrol and Doris Baker Nutter.
In 1963 he attended Lakenheath High School in Lakenheath, England and then graduated in 1964 from Poplar Bluff High School. In 1964 he attended Southern Baptist College in Walnut Ridge, Ark., and transferred to Arkansas State College in Jonesboro, Ark.
In Dec. 27, 1966, Jim married the love of his life, Beth Hyde.
After their marriage the couple moved to Detroit, Mich., where Jim worked for General Motors as the plant’s coordinator for Quality Control and Motor Safety Vehicle Standards. He was a 32nd Degree Mason in Trenton, Mich., where he previously served as Worshipful Master. Jim was a member of the Royal Arch, Scottish Rites and was a DeMolay Dad. In 2000 Jim retired after 33 years with General Motors and moved back home to Poplar Bluff. While in Poplar Bluff, he enjoyed substitute teaching in the school system as well as teaching at the Butler County Juvenile Center and Suspension Center.
Survivors include his wife, Beth Nutter, of the home; their two children: daughter, Jeannette Davis, husband, Matthew and their children, Carson, Parker and Wyndser, all of Poplar Bluff and son, James “Jay” Robert Nutter II, wife, Karla and their sons, James and Nicholas, of Parrish, Fla.; and a sister, Carole Davis, husband, Tim, of Poplar Bluff.
A Masonic Service will begin at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Cross Episcopal Church with the funeral service following. The Rev. Annette Joseph will officiate. Interment will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
