James Alton Pinkerton, 81, of Poplar Bluff, MO passed away on October 29, 2025, with his wife by his side.
Jim was born on August 10, 1944, to Rowe and Sarah (Bell) Pinkerton in Poplar Bluff, MO. He married Barbara (Maier)Pinkerton on August 15, 1964.
After working at McDonnell Douglas he moved back to Poplar Bluff and opened a bookstore, Pinkerton's ABC, and then progressed through many levels of management and retired in 2009 from Leggett & Platt. Jim was known for his creative abilities and won many awards for his wood carvings. He was a long-standing member of the Holy Cross Episcopal Church, along with many other groups including Boy Scouts, Woodworkers Guild of America, and the Margaret Harwell Art Museum. All will remember him as a soft-spoken man with a big heart and a deep love for Jesus.
Jim is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara; children, Cindy (Dan) Cattron, Bob (Kim) Pinkerton; grandchildren, Amy Cattron, Allison (Stuart) McClure, Monica (James) Varner, Chris (Maria Moiseenko) Cattron, Cameron, and Brendan Pinkerton; great grandchildren, Keagan, Kaylee, and Kelsey.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Rowe and Sarah.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025, from 1-2pm at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral & Cremation Services in Poplar Bluff, MO. Funeral services will immediately follow beginning at 2pm with Reverend Paul Nancarrow. Burial will take place at Montgomery Cemetery.
