Jane (Hamilton) Carroll

Jane Hamilton Carroll, 87, of Harviell, Mo., passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2020 at Hospice of the Piedmont in High Point, NC.

Mrs. Carroll was born Dec. 6, 1932 to the late Cecil Wayne and Mary Josephine Hamilton. She graduated from Harris Teacher’s College and Southwest Baptist University with a bachelor’s degree in education and from the University of Missouri, Columbia with a master’s degree in art education. Mrs. Carroll was a member of The First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff. She taught public school in Sikeston and Joplin, Mo. After receiving her master’s degree, she taught fine art for nine years at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo. In addition to her years of public and university level teaching she built a thriving career as a professional artist and private art teacher. She was quite active in programs at the Margaret Harwell Art Museum in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

On June 19, 1954 she married Frank LeRoy Carroll in St. Louis, Mo. and celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2014.

In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Frank LeRoy Carroll, and her brother, Richard Hamilton. Surviving are two children: Frank A. Carroll (Melanie), of Kernersville, NC and Janet Louise Carroll of Rolla, Mo. and two grandchildren: Frank Wade Carroll and Olivia Joyce Carroll: sisters Martha Pitney (Ben) of Hannibal, Mo., Louise Meakins (Bob) of Kellogg, Ia., Margery Leach (Dennis) of Florissant, Mo. and brother John Hamilton (Betty) of Springfield, Il.; sister-in-law Lucille Hennessy of Boulder, Co. and many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 7 at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff, Mo, with the funeral service following at 11 a.m.  The Rev. Jim Schremp will officiate.  Interment will be at Kinsey Cemetery in Harviell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Margaret Harwell Art Museum in Poplar Bluff.
