Jenny Lee Brooks, 49, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. passed away Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013 at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.
Ms. Brooks was born on March 1, 1963 in Berwin, IL. She was of the Baptist faith, and had graduated from Campbell High School in 1981. Ms. Brooks served in the US Navy from 1985-1989 on the USS Shenandoah. In 2008, she began working at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in the housekeeping department. She was also on the Deployed Emergency and Medical Personal System/Decontamination team. In the summer of 2010 she started attending Three Rivers College to further her career and had accumulated 52 credit hours. Ms. Brooks did many things to enrich her life. She loved camping and photography, but above every other thing, she enjoyed putting her experiences into words. She would do this through poems, letters and stories. She collected walrus' and soda bottles. She loved spending time with friends going to flea markets, yard sales and movies. Traveling and going on vacation were also a favorite of hers. She was a very kind and compassionate person to everyone she met. She was always willing to give of herself to those around her. She was loved by all who knew her and was the greatest daughter, sister, mother, aunt and friend.
Survivors include her children; Cassandra Beth Brooks of Poplar Bluff, Bruce Jonathon Walters and Zane Andrew Walters, both of Rigby, ID; her mother, Ollie Lazell Murphy Treat, of Campbell, Mo.; a brother, Wayne Brooks of Malden, Mo.; sisters; Reva J. Suchy (John) of Romeoville, IL, Brenda K. Gregory (Terry) of Indiana, Glenda R. Treat of Poplar Bluff, Sharon L. Parker (David) of Campbell, Mo., and Geneva M. Shupe (Stephen), of Poplar Bluff.
Her father, Charley M. Brooks and a brother Richard L. Brooks preceded her in death.
Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral chapel with Dr. William Vail and Rev. Steve Francis officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at 3:00 p.m. Monday at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo.
Ms. Brooks' family would like to express their most sincere appreciation and thanks to the nurses, doctors and staff at the VA Medical Center. Words are not enough to convey how wonderful they were to her during her time there.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice, in Jenny Brooks' name.
