Jerry Curtis

Jerry Wayne Curtis, 72, of Poplar Bluff, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

He was born on February 4, 1945 to Stanley and Iris (James) Curtis in Seymour, IN. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Upland, IN in 1963. On November 20, 1964 he married Brenda Hyatt in Gas City, IN.

He attended Bethel College in Mishawaka, IN, Indiana University at Kokomo, IN, and Huntington University in Huntington, IN. He graduated from Bible Training Institute in 1969.

Jerry began his ministry at the age of 18 in a small church in Roanne, IN and continued pastoring and evangelizing in churches across the United States, Canada, and Mexico for over 50 years. His fondest memories include pastoring churches in Diggins, MO, Poplar Bluff, MO, Presque Isle, ME, and Brookhaven, MS.

He retired from Unity Christian Church in Marion, IN.

Jerry was an accomplished pianist and organist having studied under a French concert pianist when he was in college. He is well loved and known for his wit, wisdom, and kindness toward everyone.

Jerry is survived by his loving spouse of 53 years, Brenda Curtis of Poplar Bluff, MO; five children, Jed (Cheryl) Curtis of Presque Isle, ME, Shelly (Dave) Barley of Manila, AR , John (Marcia) Curtis of Rogersville, MO, Jovita (Marty) Smith of Lake Charles, LA, and Penny (David) Bowers of Ashland, MO; ten grandchildren, Emma Curtis, Deklan Curtis, Amanda Barley, Micah Barley, Justin Barley, Tyler Barley, Christopher Curtis, Derek Curtis, Whitney Fox, Haleigh McCauley; five Great-Grandchildren, Sara Curtis, Emma Curtis, Nolan McCauley, Tristen Hayes, Isley Hayes; and two sisters, Debbe Kincy of Poplar Bluff, MO and Dee Burgess of Breckenridge, MI.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at the Cornerstone Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church in Poplar Bluff.

Funeral services will be held immediately following visitation at 1 p.m. in the Cornerstone Tabernacle Sanctuary with Reverend John Curtis and Reverend Steve Burns officiating.
