Jerry D. Karnes, 83, of Poplar Bluff, MO, passed away at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau on Thursday, May 28, 2026. He was born on June 18, 1942, to Joe and Leota (Adams) Karnes in Neelyville, Missouri; both parents precede him in death, along with his first wife, Barbara, second wife, Betty and his daughter, Cynthia Price.
Jerry proudly served in the United States Navy as well as the United States Air Force for many years. During his time in the Air Force, he achieved the highest civilian rank attainable of Chief Master Sergeant. After retiring, he spent his spare time writing songs and playing music. He especially loved to play and sing in bluegrass festivals with the Black River Express band throughout Missouri and Arkansas.
Left to cherish his memories are his two daughters, Lisa (Scott) Diecker, Kim Arbogast, and son-in-law, Lafarrell Price. He is also remembered by his five grandchildren, Justin (Danielle) Diecker, Zach (Molly) Diecker, Austin Price, Aspen Price and Nick Arbogast; along with three great-granddaughters.

Visitation for close family and friends will be held on Saturday, June 06, 2026, from 10:00am-11:00am at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral and Cremations Services in Poplar Bluff. Graveside service to follow shortly afterward, beginning at 11:15am at Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Pastor Keith Luke officiating. Jerry will be laid to rest next to his parents.
