Jewell E. Hale

August 20, 1916 — January 29, 2017

Jewel E. Hale, concluded her life on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at Cedargate Healthcare in Poplar Bluff at the wonderful age of 100.

Mrs. Jewel E. Hale was born August 20, 1916 in Ackerman, Mississippi to Vanderbilt and Luelvia Miller Clark.

She attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Poplar Bluff but was a member of the Augustine Cathedral Catholic Church in Tucson, Arizona.

Mrs. Hale previously worked as an L.P.N. at St. Mary’s Hospital, Tucson Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona. She also was the Resident Director of the YWCA in Tucson Arizona from 1972-1975. She spent many hours in her younger years volunteering with the PTA at Immaculate Heart Academy and St. Augustine School, as well as visiting various nursing homes. She enjoyed walking, gardening and taking care of a host of family and friend’s children over the years.

Mrs. Hale is survived by her daughter, Bonetta Jynell Hutson (Joshua) of Clovis, New Mexico and two grandsons whom she loved dearly: Christian Alexander Evans of Beloit, Wisconsin and Stephan James Evans and grandchildren Akira Isaac Evans, Anabell Hitomi Evans and Penelope Violet Evans of Las Vegas, Nevada, and one sister, Fannie Clarke of San Francisco, California, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and many other family members.

Mrs. Hale is preceded in death by her parents on Vanderbilt Clark and Luelvia Miller Clark, her husband Willie Golden Hale, nine sisters, Amie Lue Clark, Florence Clarke, Bessie Clark, Ernestine Clark, Ida C. Pendleton, Della Clark, Vanessa Carter, Dorothy Jones and Roberta Brady and three brothers, Eddie Clark, Cleveland Clark and Vanderbilt Clark Jr.

A graveside service and inurnment of ashes will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery with Deacon David Farris officiating.
