James Baker Godwin, 83, of Neelyville, MO, passed away January 29, 2019 in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
He was born on March 11, 1935 to the late Harold and Olive Godwin in Poplar Bluff. He was a member of the Black Creek Missionary Baptist Church and served in the US Navy from 1954 to 1958. He married Geneva Therrell on September 22, 1956.
He was employed by Emerson Electric Electronics and Space Division. He began as a Technical Writer and was recognized by the Advanced Research Projects Agency in 1969 as the Proposal Administrator /Editor for a proposal that was used as a teaching aid in the Operations Analysis Department of the US Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He later became the Marketing Representative for Federated Mutual Insurance Co and was a producing agent for Wylie Insurance Agency. He owned and operated Jim's Handy Mart in Neelyville before retiring.
He loved the game of golf and was also a bird hunter and raised a successful bird dog, Westwood Windy.
Jim is survived by his wife, Geneva Godwin; his children, Pete Godwin (Nancy), Jennifer Hendricks (Reggie), and Katie Schroeder (Steve); one brother, Buddy Godwin (Mary) and one sister, Sue Wilson (Rick); three grandchildren, Ryan Hendricks (Ashley), Jacob Godwin (Ellie) and Andy Godwin; and three great-grandchildren, Ryker Hendricks, Jaxon Hendricks and Amelia Hendricks.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandchildren, Holly Renee Hendricks and Max Timothy Hendricks.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 1, 2018 from 5-7:00 p.m. at Moore Funeral Service in Poplar Bluff.
A celebration of his life will be on Saturday, February 2, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Moore Funeral Service chapel with Reverend Dennis Ward officiating. Burial will take place in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
