Jimmie Allen Grimmett, 79, of Wappapello, Mo., passed away Thursday, May 9, 2019 at his residence.
Jimmie, the son of the late Samuel Thompson and Nina Marie Franklin Grimmett, was born Feb. 28, 1940, in Naylor, Mo. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Williamsville and had retired from White Castle Systems as assistant plant manager. Jimmie was a member of the Lions Club in Williamsville and Eagles Lodge in Wappapello. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and playing cards. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family and friends and being outdoors.
He married Betty Melton on Nov. 4, 1965, in Belleville, Ill. She preceded him in death on April 1, 1996.
Survivors include five children, Steven Dodson of Fenton, Mo., Kenny Dale (Tracey) Grimmett of Birch Tree, Mo., Michael Ray Grimmett of Winona, Mo., Michelle Denise Grimmett of St. Louis and Jennifer Lynn Grimmett-Hurt of House Springs, Mo.; nine grandchildren, April Marie Grimmett, Kenneth Joshua Grimmett, Amy Jean Grimmett, Matthew Chase Grimmett, Summer Dawn Proffitt, Luke Michael Walker, Jake Aaron Walker, James Jackson Grimmett, Hattie Mercer and Sara Williams; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Georgia (Bill) Lafferty of Crystal River, Fla., Pat (Harley) Lawrence of Homosassa, Fla and Marilyn (Carl) Shane of St. Peters, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A brother Donald Grimmett also preceded Jimmie in death.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Wappapello Cotrell Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at the Wappapello Chapel with Pastor Jeff Estes and Pastor Nelma Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Little Brushy Cemetery in Wappapello.
