Jimmy Dale Coats, Sr., 71, of Poplar Bluff died Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at his residence.
Mr. Coats was born Feb. 18, 1939 in Poplar Bluff; and was a graduate of Poplar Bluff High School and the Kansas City School of Theology. He was a member of Agee Church, and had previously served as pastor at Hillsboro United Methodist Church in Hillsboro. Mr. Coats was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in Vietnam. An avid photographer, he enjoyed taking pictures, scuba diving and riding motorcycles.
Survivors include his children: Tammy Orchard of Eminence and Jimmy D. Coats, Jr. of New Mexico; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and two brothers, Dr. Phillip E. Coats of Collinsville, Tex. and Rev. Hartlen G. Coats of Tulsa, Okla.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. A graveside service with full military honors will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at the City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff with the Rev. Jim Hoyt officiating.
