John W. Childers

John W. Childers, Sr. 74, of Wappapello, Mo., died Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Mr. Childers was born Dec. 22, 1939 in Pocahontas, AR to the late Glen T. and Willene Etcherson Childers. He was of the non-denominational faith, and had retired from DOW Screw Products. Mr. Childers proudly served in the U.S. Navy, and was a member of Wappapello Eagle's Lodge 4066 and Wappapello V.F.W. Post 3415. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing and playing shuffleboard.

On April 25, 1964, he married Roberta Mitchell in St. Louis, Mo. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two children: Cathy Mowery (Allen), of Imperial, Mo., and John W. Childers, Jr. (Rita), of Festus, Mo.; grandchildren: Mandy, David and John Mowery, Nichole Huffman (Brandon), Drake and Miranda Childers and Ryan Hansen; two great-grandchildren: Amaris Connelly and Brooklyn Mowery; three brothers, Don, Allen and Kenneth; and four sisters, Betty, Mary Ann, Shirley and Debbie.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 28th at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Wappapello, Mo. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Wappapello Chapel with Pastor Danny Spence officiating. Burial will be at Little Brushy Cemetery in Wappapello.
