John Odis Hobbs

John Odis Hobbs, 79, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., departed this earth on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016 at Saint Louis University Hospital in Saint Louis, Mo.

John, the son of the late Fred and Beulah Ray Hobbs, was born Nov. 4, 1937 in Qulin, Mo. He graduated from Poplar Bluff High School and served in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1963 as a paramedic. John was employed with the Veterans Administration Hospital until 1968. He later started his own business in Poplar Bluff, Hobbs Nursery and Greenhouses, which he owned and operated until his death.

John loved spending time with his family and friends and when he was not working he enjoyed fishing and ball games.

On April 24, 1959, he married Rowena Joyce Tucker in Poplar Bluff. She survives.

Other survivors include five sons: John (Linda) Hobbs, Ricky (Shannon) Hobbs, Randy (Teresa) Hobbs, Roger (Kay) Hobbs and Brian Hobbs and Angie Corcimiglia all of Poplar Bluff; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a brother, Ernest G. Hobbs and family of Tullahoma, Tenn.

John was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and brother and will be missed by all those he touched with his kindness and generosity.

The visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28th at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Bob Featherston officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
