John David Jones, 87, of Poplar Bluff died Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Oakdale Care Center in Poplar Bluff.
Mr. Jones was born Nov. 9, 1923 in Piggott, Ark. He served 30 years with the Butler County Civil Defense Department, and had retired from Poplar Bluff Auto Parts as a machinist. Mr. Jones was a former volunteer Butler County Sheriff's Deputy for many years, and was a former stock car driver, scuba diver and gunsmith as well. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in WWII. Mr. Jones enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and staying active.
On July 14, 1942, he married Ruby Lee Beaver in Clay County, Ark. She preceded him in death on Jan. 19, 2011.
Other survivors include two grandchildren, John Perry and wife, Vickie of Juneau, Alaska and Terri Galbraith of Poplar Bluff; and four great-grandchildren.
His parents, Harry and Mary (Jennings) Jones, daughter, Martha Lee Perry and brothers, Harry Jones, Marion Jones and Chuck Jones also preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Jim Schremp officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
